Vlasic was nowhere near that amount!

30m euros (£25.7m) plus 9m euros (£7.7m) in add-ons

Re: Where do the Moyes critics stand now.
All said with hindsight, of course.

But Masuaku is never a left back. But most certainly isn't against a top side. You'll get away with it against Burnley, just like you can get away with Carrick playing centre half for Man U against a team which doesn't attack (yes, us).

You have to be brave at times, as well as realistic. Put Ashby at right back and tell Coufal to do a number on Saka. He's got the experience. And Moyes is more than prepared to play two right backs and mess up the shape of the team in a game to kill a threat, as we saw with grealish.

Ahead of that, you wouldn't start much differently, maybe Benni for either Manu or Pablo. But it's all a much of a muchness, because we bought Kral and Vlasic and he simply won't start them.

But once the game had started, it was clear the were killing us in midfield. They were all over Soucek and Rice and the two of them needed help. He knows Noble is busted, but last year was prepared to try a 3. This year, he isn't prepared to bring on Kral to just add an extra body. Meanwhile Lanzini and Fornals offer nothing to that area. They simply too slow and lightweight against a top side to play centrally.

Once we were down to 10, bring on Ashby. Because Antonio at right back is going to do nothing and probably be a liability. Once Ashby was on, we suddenly had a bit of a threat, as his game is all about getting along the wing and he can actually cross, unlike so many of the others (Masuaku, Benrahma).

And why on earth bring on Benrahma?! He does absolutely nothing and he does it so fucking slowly it's ridiculous. At least Okoflex has something to prove.

But to not change anything after the first half. Ridiculous.

And to not have have ANY striker just for the sake of back up or competition at least, after 18 months, is utterly stupid.

We were beaten by the better team and Vlasic didn’t cost £28m.

Interested to hear how you would have lined up and what changes you would have made during the game?

Well that's not how you manage a football game.

Doesn't use subs well. Doesn't recognise problems on the field. Doesn't replace out of form players.

Spunked 28m on a player he won't be play. Desperately needed a striker for 18 months. Criminal.

The old Moyes.

I've had my fair share of Moyes negatives (lineups, late subs, defensive et etc)
I ammfull of praise for what he has achieved. May it last a long time, and then let's put up a statue.

The original umble pie was a savoury dish, made with offal.

That said, the Romans ate pears in custard flavoured with fish sauce, so maybe offal and custard works.

Report back.

Some of us who were accepting of Moyes succeeding Pelle have been wrong about him in that he has exceeded our expectations so far.

Anyway it does not matter who and how our managers perform they will always be open to criticism and rightly so.

Re: Where do the Moyes critics stand now.
I absolutely didn't want Lingard at the time. I was very scathing of him, but said after a few games I was absolutely wrong. I thought his attitude would be all wrong for us but i was way off.

I was pro Moyes to the point of having arguments with other people about him. It was obvious what he was trying to do first time round and build from the back (which was what we needed) and worry about attacking effectively afterwards so he needed time and a few transfer windows. Actually I was against him being let go although when it turned out Pellegrini was coming in I was excited at first.

Delighted to have Moyes back as well, and he's done exactly what i thought he would over time- but actually made us more exciting to watch than I thought as the team has evolved- and the team has evolved quicker than I thought. He's been very smart with the evolution of the team. Putting pieces in one by one and gradually having us play better and more attacking and exciting football. I think he's learned himself even, from his Everton days when the argument was he was too defensive. We have a great balance now between attack and defence and players who really work for each other.

Like when you spent the entire summer transfer window being wrong you mean?

Re: Where do the Moyes critics stand now.
Admitting you are wrong or better still being willing to be wrong tends to be a psychological state associated with humility and is rooted in self esteem. Counterintuitive to some but that's what the majority of shrinks say too. One good thing about getting older for many of us is that you realise each day that you know less than you thought you did and are far more "open" minded and less defensive as your physical powers etc. diminish etc.. and you slip gracefully into your bath or rocking chair, commode etc :-)

Sadly this does not happen for everyone. Psychology and "knowing thyself" is key, the whole Zen thing. Once I knew I was a cvnt/numpty life became much easier and coming on sites like WHO I often get reminded of this :-)

It’s nice when people can hold their hands up and admit when they were wrong.

It’s a shame we have people on here like goose, Johnson and Miike, who can never admit being wrong about anything.

Re: Where do the Moyes critics stand now.
What we have to hope is that Moyes is left alone to continue the culture change. Even positioning Nolan or Noble or someone in the coaching team to take over the reigns at some point down the line. Succession planning. But Moyes might do as Warnock is doing and just keep working until his 70?

WHO saw the seeds of improvement at the start of last season? WHO thought we were only winning because Moyes was away from the team with Covid? WHO really cares?
